about
Mackenzie got her start as a photojournalist at her college newspaper before entering the world of public radio at WBEZ, Chicago's NPR station. There, she produced and reported stories for the podcast and program Curious City, where she developed her skills in engagement journalism and feature-length storytelling. She's also practiced music journalism and radio storytelling in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she reported on culture and sustainability.
Now based in Asheville, NC, Mackenzie has pivoted to documenting the people and spaces that make up her life — mostly using her Olympus point and shoot film cameras. She is currently working on a photobook for a personal project that she began in 2022.
A few of her photos were recently published in Understory: A Digital Zine for Relief in Western North Carolina through Loblolly Press.
Mackenzie's reporting and production work has been featured on WBEZ, NPR, and broadcasted on All Things Considered.
